Public toilets on the Northumberland Coast

20 public toilets within the Northumberland Coast National Landscape boundary, and 16 more just outside.

Castles, dunes and enormous empty beaches — Bamburgh, Seahouses, Craster, Alnmouth and Holy Island — with facilities at every major village but real gaps in between. The county council keeps the key blocks going: Seahouses' refurbished Seafield Road site by the main car park, the Green Lane block on Holy Island, free toilets by the golf course at Alnmouth, and the car-park block at Craster where the Dunstanburgh walk starts.

Two of the council's Changing Places toilets sit right on this coast — Seahouses and Holy Island — and Bamburgh adds a third at the Walled Garden below the castle, open to anyone with a RADAR key. The county also runs a 'Use our loo' scheme, with participating cafés and pubs showing a sticker on the door. Between villages, though, the dunes and headlands offer nothing: there's no public block on the walk out to Dunstanburgh Castle (the toilets are inside the paid site), and the causeway to Holy Island has none either.

Check the map and the tide times together on this coast — the next facilities may be a village away, and on Lindisfarne the crossing sets your schedule anyway.

Accessibility
Changing Places at Seahouses (Seafield Road), Holy Island's Green Lane car park and the Bamburgh Walled Garden, with more at Druridge Bay Country Park and Berwick just beyond the coast. Accessible cubicles at Bamburgh's two car-park blocks and elsewhere are RADAR-locked.
Seasonal
Hours flex with the season — Seahouses closes at 7pm in spring and 8pm through the summer holidays — and smaller sites can shut or shorten in winter.
Where the gaps are
The between-village stretches: Craster to Low Newton, the dunes north of Bamburgh, and the Holy Island causeway. Treat each village block and 'Use our loo' café as a checkpoint.
