Right on Glasgow's doorstep, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs is a park of lochs, wooded hills and easy days out by the water, from the bonnie banks at Balmaha and Luss to Ben Lomond and the quieter Trossachs around Aberfoyle and Callander. The National Park's shoreline toilets are mostly free, with blocks at Inveruglas, Firkin Point, Tarbet, Milarrochy Bay, the Ben Lomond car park and the Balloch slipway, and several keep an accessible cubicle open around the clock even when the main block is locked.
A couple charge a small fee, Luss and the Balmaha visitor centre among them, and a network of comfort-scheme cafés and shops lets you use their loos for free, from the Green Welly at Tyndrum to the café at Loch Lubnaig. Get away from the shore, up Ben Lomond or out along the West Highland Way, and the facilities fall away quickly, so go in the village or at the car park before you set off.
Use the map to see what's open near your spot before you arrive, especially on a sunny weekend when the lochside fills with day-trippers from the city and the main car parks are full by late morning.
- Accessibility
- Most of the National Park's loch-shore toilets have an accessible cubicle, several of them open 24 hours, and the one Changing Places facility in the park is at Aberfoyle, open 9am to 6pm on weekdays. Callander's Station Road toilets have accessible facilities and baby changing too. The hill paths and the West Highland Way have none between settlements.
- Seasonal
- The toilets on the Three Lochs Forest Drive close over winter when the drive itself shuts, and the comfort-scheme cafés keep their own seasonal hours, so check before an off-season visit. The main shoreline blocks stay open year-round.
- Where the gaps are
- The hills and the long-distance path are facility-free once you leave the shore, so plan around the lochside villages and car parks.
