Public toilets on the Norfolk Coast

The North Norfolk coast is big-sky, big-beach country — Wells-next-the-Sea, Holkham, Blakeney, Cromer, Sheringham and Hunstanton — and it's quietly one of the best-served coastlines in the country for public toilets. North Norfolk District Council runs around twenty-one blocks, all free, and it takes them seriously: two of its facilities took Diamond grades at the Loo of the Year Awards, and the flagship block at Stearman's Yard in Wells has 24-hour cubicles and a full Changing Places room.

Wells alone has three blocks, Cromer and Sheringham several each along their promenades, and Hunstanton's borough-run sites include a 24-hour unisex block at Esplanade Gardens. The National Trust covers Morston Quay for the Blakeney seal trips. The gaps are the wild bits in between — the saltmarsh stretches of the coast path between Holkham and Wells, or out past Stiffkey — where you're a long way from anything.

Check the map before a marsh walk or a winter beach day; most blocks drop to 9am–5pm out of season, and the smaller village sites close entirely.

Accessibility

This is one of the strongest coasts for Changing Places: Stearman's Yard in Wells, the Louden Road facility in Cromer, The Leas and The Reef in Sheringham, plus more inland at Holt, Fakenham and North Walsham. Accessible cubicles at the busier blocks (Wells Beach Road, Cromer Pier, Blakeney Quay among them) are on the RADAR scheme.

Seasonal

Summer hours run to 8pm or 9pm at the seaside blocks; from November to mid-March everything drops to roughly 9am–5pm and some smaller sites shut for the winter.

Where the gaps are

The coast-path stretches between villages — Holkham to Wells along the pines, and the saltmarsh miles past Stiffkey and Salthouse — have nothing, so use the quay or beach-car-park block before you set off.
