Public toilets in the Cotswolds

Whether you're feeding the ducks at Bourton-on-the-Water, browsing the antique shops in Stow or walking a stretch of the Cotswold Way, the Cotswolds keep their public toilets in the honeypot towns and villages. Cotswold District Council runs a block in each of its main visitor towns — Cirencester, Tetbury, Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, Northleach, Lechlade and Fairford — plus two in Bourton-on-the-Water, which gets the biggest crowds of the lot, and they open 364 days a year. Over the Worcestershire border, Broadway has a well-kept block at the Church Close car park.

Most of the district council's sites charge 40p (card readers are being rolled out), with a handful still free — but every one keeps a free accessible unit opened with a RADAR key, even where the main block charges. Out between the villages it's a different story: the Cotswold Way and the quieter wolds have essentially nothing, so the village loo or a friendly pub is your last stop before a long walk.

Use the map to check what's open near your village before you set off — especially on a summer Saturday, when Bourton and Bibury fill up by mid-morning.

Accessibility

Every Cotswold District Council block has a free accessible unit on the RADAR key scheme. Changing Places facilities arrived in 2024 at the Abbey Grounds in Cirencester, Birdland in Bourton-on-the-Water, Cotswold Farm Park and the Cotswold Country Park & Beach, joining the longer-standing one at Westonbirt Arboretum.

Seasonal

The district council's blocks open 364 days a year with shorter winter hours; Broadway's Activity Park drops to a single unattended unit from October to March.

Where the gaps are

The Cotswold Way between settlements is the big one — walkers' guides treat a public toilet on the trail as the exception. Cirencester is also down to one town-centre block after two closures, so don't leave it late on market day.
